F.C. Copenhagen invite Red Cross volunteers to celebrate charity's 150th anniversary
F.C. Copenhagen will help celebrate the Red Cross' 150th anniversary in Denmark by paying tribute to the charity's volunteers on 3 September in Parken, when the Lions take on FC Nordsjælland.
Copenhagen's 3,550 Red Cross volunteers are invited to attend the match, with tickets priced at just 20 DKK. Ticket sales will be donated to the Red Cross.
F.C. Copenhagen players will also wear the Red Cross' anniversary logo on their shirts for the match. These specially-designed shirts will then be auctioned off after the match to benefit the Red Cross' work, which is based on community, volunteerism and humanity.
The Red Cross has had an fundamentally positive affect on society in Denmark for 150 years – driven by the will of volunteers to help people in difficult situations, create communities and provide positive changes for children, adults and the elderly all over the country.
"Volunteers have carried the Red Cross forward in Denmark across multiple generations. That will is just as strong today as it was in 1876 – and it is more relevant, important and necessary than ever," says Anders Ladekarl, Secretary General of the Red Cross.
"For 150 years, volunteers have been the foundation of the Red Cross, and we celebrate that in Parken together with F.C. Copenhagen."
The Red Cross wasn't the only organisation to celebrate 150 years in the spring, with KB – one of F.C. Copenhagen's founding clubs – also marking that anniversary, which falls the day next to the charity's.
The anniversary match is therefore a natural opportunity to celebrate the communities that make a difference for people throughout Denmark.
“Football has a special ability to bring people together across age, background and life situation – just like the Red Cross – and therefore the match in the Parken is both a celebration of the history of two organisations and a tribute to the people who dedicate their free time, energy and passion to helping others every day," adds Anders.
"We are proud to be able to do this together with F.C. Copenhagen and put volunteerism at the centre of it all."

Red Cross volunteers help people every day when life is difficult, when communities are struggling or lacking, and when a crisis strikes. At the same time, the Red Cross collaborates with authorities and civil groups to strengthen welfare, security and safety when the need arises. The voluntary willingness to act when others need help is the driving force behind the Red Cross.
