The Danish coach joins F.C. Copenhagen on a multi-year contract after almost 10 years as a coach in German and Austrian football.
After his active playing career, 46-year-old Svensson has, among other roles, made his mark as head Coach of Austrian side FC Liefering and Bundesliga clubs Mainz 05 and Union Berlin, where he was widely recognised for his tactical approach, focus on developing young talent and the ability to create a strong team culture while in charge of Mainz 05 and Union Berlin.
“We are very happy to welcome Bo Svensson back to Copenhagen,” says Chairman of the Board of PARKEN Sport & Entertainment, Henrik Møgelmose.
“He knows exactly what it means to play with the FCK lion on his chest and represent F.C. Copenhagen, and he is a strong, international capacity. There has been significant interest about him, so we are very so we are very pleased, that we have found each other.”
“Bo Svensson represents the combination of ambition, experience and commitment that F.C. Copenhagen needs - both in the short and long term, and we are very much looking forward to the collaboration.
“Right now, our immediate focus is on securing seventh place and the cup, so that we have the best possible starting point for next season.”
Svensson began his playing career at KB as a six-year-old and made his debut for F.C. Copenhagen in 1999, where he became an important member of the club's evolution to becoming a top Superliga team.
F.C. Copenhagen's new head coach comes to the club with a clear goal of adding further trophies to the four Danish championships and one cup he won as a center-back for the Lions at the beginning of this millennium.
“It is an honor to return to my beloved club and to be in charge of F.C. Copenhagen,” says Bo Svensson.
“I approach the task humbly, but also confidently. I know what I can contribute, and I take responsibility with open eyes and full awareness of the challenges and opportunities,” says Svensson, who takes charge of his first training session with the squad on Tuesday.
"Change is needed, and we must regain stability and the joy of playing, so that the fans can recognise us again. I am convinced that we can succeed, and I am looking forward to working together with the players and staff. And I am looking forward to stepping into a packed Parken and greeting the fans.”
F.C. Copenhagen is also in the process of recruiting a new assistant coach and will announce this appointment later today.
