F.C. Copenhagen Women win on historic Parken debut
F.C. Copenhagen Women played their inaugural game in Parken on Sunday and secured a 2-1 victory over Næstved HG in front of 18,096 fans to wrap up their Second Division campaign in style.
The Lionesses had already secured promotion heading into the final day of the campaign but were ready to impress in Denmark's national stadium.
The 18,096 attendance broke the record for a women's club game in Denmark.
Yet it wasn't plain sailing for boss Kasper Klarskov. He watched on as the Lionesses went behind midway through the first half when Næstved's player-coach, Louise Ringsing, scored a sensational long-range free kick that whizzed over FCK keeper Anna Kaas' head and into the net.
Thankfully the hosts levelled on the half-hour mark when Ida Skovbo collected the ball from Sunneva Sigurvinsdóttir after a corner was only half cleared, and the centre-back fired into the top corner.
Frederikke Benfeldt and Maria Hovmark were persistent threats for the Lionesses – and it was Benfeldt who eventually carved out the winner for Josephine Lech. Her corner flew all the way to the back post, where Lech nodded home to send Parken into raptures.
FCK controlled the game for much of the second half after the goal, but Kaas had to be on hand to shepherd the occasional Næstved shot away from goal.
In the end, the Lionesses came out on top and celebrated with supporters on the final whistle.
