Oliver Højer reflects on scoring in comeback from injury
Oliver Højer says the goal he scored in F.C. Copenhagen's friendly draw with Brann on Saturday carried extra meaning, as it came on his return to action after a year out with injury.
Højer, 18, came off the bench in the second half to play on the left wing and crowned his return to action with a stunning goal to give FCK the lead.
"I just remember thinking that the first time I touch the ball, I just have to 'play it safe' to get started," Højer tells FCK.dk. "Otherwise, I thought that it would be great to get on the scoresheet, and also just come on and show that I have developed some physicality.
"But most importantly, to come out with the right mindset. You can always have a good or bad match on the ball, but the effort - I knew that had to be there, because you can always do that."
Højer suffered an injury a year ago but was delighted to be back in the action last weekend.
"I've always thought it was great to score goals, but this one in particular meant a little extra," he adds. "In terms of getting off to a good start and getting some confidence in me, and showing that I can still kick the ball.
"So it was a really great feeling to see it go in."
Højer also used his injury lay-off to strengthen his upper body, and put on a few kilos of muscle mass compared to when he joined the FCK first-team squad in the summer of 2024.
And he doesn't hide what he's looking forward to the most: "Getting back home and feeling Parken. It's just something completely unique. I remember the first time I stepped into Parken, I almost felt like I was in a video game, it was completely surreal.
"So what I've been looking forward to the most is stepping onto the pitch in Parken for the club I've supported since I was born. And hopefully scoring a goal or two!"
Højer could get the chance for more playing time in Wednesday's training match against Sturm Graz (4pm), which FCK TV will stream live on the FCK app and at tv.fck.dk.
