Liam West promoted to FCK first-team squad
Liam West will become a permanent member of F.C. Copenhagen's first-team squad from the upcoming season.
The 17-year-old Norwegian was part of the squad during the winter break and made a good impression during the training camp in Spain.
A top European talent
Sporting director Sune Smith-Nielsen said of West's promotion: "We see Liam as a player with tremendous potential, and in our view, he is a talent of international caliber.
"He is technically skilled and possesses good pace. At the same time, he is eager to learn and constantly improve, which are some of the qualities we value highly in our environment."
West, who was born and raised in Norway, said: "I had the opportunity to test myself during the winter break with the team, and even though it was really tough and demanding, it was also incredibly educational.
"I'm proud that I’ll now be training with and be part of the first team on a permanent basis. Reaching this point has been a goal in itself.
"Now it's time to build on that and work even harder to take the next steps and become a player the coaching staff can rely on in matches.
"I know it doesn't happen just because you've been promoted to the first team. It will take even more hard and focused work – and I’m really looking forward to getting started."
Impressed during winter training
FCK head coach Jacob Neestrup had the chance to observe West up close during the winter.
"Liam is an exciting player who made an impression in our first-team training sessions this winter," said Neestrup.
"That speaks to his potential, and we look forward to continuing his development and, in time, turning him into a player who can compete for a spot in the team that takes to the pitch in Parken."
West joined F.C. Copenhagen in January 2024, transferring from Fredrikstad FK in his home country. Since then, he has played for both the FCK Talent U17 and U19 teams. He has 15 caps for Norway’s youth national teams.
West will wear shirt number 49 in the upcoming season.
