F.C. Copenhagen sign Mathias ‘Zanka’ Jørgensen
F.C. Copenhagen are delighted to announce the signing of Mathias ‘Zanka’ Jørgensen for the rest of the season.
Zanka has played 303 games for the club since his debut in 2007 and has in-depth knowledge of both F.C. Copenhagen and the Danish Superliga.
Discussing the defender's return to the club, head coach Jacob Neestrup says: “We are currently missing a player in central defence - both for our two upcoming games and for the rest of the season, and we want to be best equipped to ensure that F.C. Copenhagen qualify for European football next season.
“Zanka brings solidity and calm during a difficult time, and I am pleased that he wants to contribute to end the season in the best possible way.
“Zanka returns to Copenhagen bringing with him his strong personality, his great competitive instinct and a great motivation to help the club and the team in a situation that is very unfamiliar to all of us. We are all looking forward to having him on the training pitch with the rest of the team on Wednesday.”
'Very special' to play in Parken
Zanka came through the youth ranks at B93 before making his FCK debut in 2007. The centre-back has since represented F.C. Copenhagen on three separate occasions, most recently during a loan spell from Fenerbahce in the 2020/21 season.
“I am looking forward to returning to Copenhagen, and even more to pulling the FCK shirt over my head again and walking into Parken," says Zanka. "That feeling has always been something very special to me.
“I am coming in with respect for the situation and a strong belief that together we can lift the team. I have seen the quality and potential of the squad from a distance and will do everything to bring it back into play. It will be a great honour to help the club, which has given me so much, out of the current situation.
“I am looking forward to training with the team and to the match on Sunday in Parken."
In connection with the arrival, Amir Richardson has agreed to change his shirt number to 23, so that Zanka can once again wear number 25 - the number he has always played with at F.C. Copenhagen.
