Lukas Lerager

Lukas Lerager to leave FCK at the end of 2025

F.C. Copenhagen and Lukas Lerager will go their separate ways when the midfielder's contract expires at the end of 2025.

It has not been possible to reach an agreement on a new contract, says sporting director Sune Smith-Nielsen.

"We have had constructive discussions with Lukas and his team, and we have worked on several models and discussed different options of contract length and salary," says Sune. "However, we have not been able to find a solution that both parties can be satisfied with.

"Lukas has always acted extremely professionally, and he has delivered many strong performances on the field. He has fought for the lion on his chest, and we thank him for the almost five years he has been here.

“We are saying goodbye to a player who has helped win three championships, two cups and has participated in the Champions League three times. We can only have deep respect for that, and therefore we must also say a proper goodbye to Lukas when we play our last game in 2025."

Speaking about the decision, Lerager says: “I would have liked to have continued at F.C. Copenhagen, and I am really disappointed that we have not been able to reach an agreement. The dialogue has been good, but in the end we could not make ends meet, and I accept that of course.

“I have enjoyed every moment here at the club and on the pitch, and I have done my best every day. It has been a pleasure to play for Scandinavia's biggest club, and I have good memories from here. But it is not time to say goodbye yet. Now the focus is on finishing strong - both for me and for the team."

Everyone at F.C. Copenhagen wishes the 32-year-old midfielder all the best for the future.
