F.C. Copenhagen sign Rúnarsson
F.C. Copenhagen have signed Iceland international goalkeeper Rúnar Alex Rúnarsson on a free transfer in a deal that runs to the summer of 2027. He will wear jersey number 31.
Rúnarsson has 27 caps for Iceland and has previously played in the Danish Superliga for FC Nordsjælland, before switching to French and English football.
PC: Good competition and quality
"We had a goal to strengthen the goalkeeper position after Theo Sander was injured," says FCK sporting director Peter Christiansen.
"Rúnar has a lot of experience from big leagues and the Iceland national team, so we are sure that he’ll provide greater competition and quality in the goalkeeping set-up."
Rúnarsson: Ready to start immediately
Rúnarsson moved to Dijon in 2018 before Arsenal signed him two years later. From there he has spent time on loan in Belgian and Turkish football, and was most recently at Cardiff City in the Championship.
"I am very happy that the move to FCK has gone well," says Rúnarsson.
"I know the club, the city and the league very well and know that this is a big club that I am coming to. I’m very much looking forward to becoming part of the squad and the collaboration in the goalkeeping team with Kim Christensen, where I will do everything to help the team and give competition to the other keepers.
"Now I've landed in Portugal and I'm ready to get started on the pitch right away.”
Neestrup: A technically skilled goalkeeper
FCK head coach Jacob Neestrup is also pleased to get the recruit over the line.
"Alex is a technically skilled goalkeeper who can contribute a lot both defensively and offensively," says Neestrup.
"We know him very well and see him as an important piece of the squad especially in that we have the necessary opportunities for the goalkeeper position.
"We are now looking forward to getting him into the group and onto the pitch.”
Everyone at F.C. Copenhagen would like to welcome Rúnar to the club and the city.
