Nicklas Bendtner

Bendtner ends his stay at FCK

F.C. Copenhagen will not extend the contract of Nicklas Bendtner, which expires at the end of this year.

"We have been very satisfied with Nicklas and the way he has contributed to the squad, both in the dressing room and in the daily training," says manager Ståle Solbakken.

"Through his experience as a footballer and with his good attitude, he has been a role model who has always helped the team and the youngsters.

"For some time, he has probably sensed how it would end, but he has tackled this challenge very professionally. He has been a good teammate all the way and supported the boys and been a part of our good results - even though he has been disappointed about not playing so much.

"We have been happy to have him in the team, but he has had difficulties getting playing time because of the competition and injuries.

"We have always had a good and open dialog. We did, however, also agree that limited playing time in the future could be difficult for Nicklas and his motivation.

"We expect that Dame N'Doye will play more and that Pieros Sotiriou, Michael Santos, Mohamed Daramy - and before too long also Jonas Wind - will play a lot.

"Nicklas came as a friend of the club, and it will remain so. He has had a great career, been a good team player at FCK and a good guy from the day one. He will always be welcome here," ends Ståle.

Bendtner himself spoke to FCK about the decision.

"I'm proud that I have now played in the FCK jersey and scored a goal in Telia Parken, which was always one of my dreams as a footballer," says Nicklas.

"I knew the conditions for the opportunities that FCK and Ståle gave me, and I've been treated well by everyone in the club.

"Of course, I had hoped for more playing time and maybe a longer contract, but I fully respect Ståle's decision, and in no way do I regret my time here at FCK.

"I would like to thank everyone in the club and especially the fans for the support I have received, which has touched me deeply.

"Now, I will thoroughly consider my options and decide what the future has in store for me - on or off the pitch."
