Neestrup: Today's win is all that counts
F.C. Copenhagen secured a hard-fought 3-2 victory over FC Frederica in the Danish Superliga on Saturday – and head coach Jacob Neestrup was glad for the three points.
Viktor Claesson opened the scoring in the first half, before Youssoufa Moukoko converted from the spot 10 minutes after the break to put FCK back ahead after Gustav Marcussen's leveller.
Junnosuke Suzuki then made it 3-1 with a low drive into the bottom corner 13 minutes from time, but Frederica gave it all they had and pulled one back through Oscar Buch.
Reflecting on the win, Neestrup said: "We won, and right now that's all that counts.
"We're still in a difficult place, and things don't come easy for us. I'm obviously happy about the victory but the performance wasn't good enough.
"But I'm clear that that's how it is at the moment, and it will probably be like that for the rest of the year, where it's just about winning our games and staying high in the table.
"We still have it within our own reach, but we don't have the flow in the game that we had at the end of spring and the beginning of the season. In my opinion, this is mainly due to the fact that we have been missing five or six of our key players for a period of several weeks.
"It may sound like a bad excuse, but when something like this happens it can hit any team. Having said that, there are also other things we should have done better."
Next up for FCK is a trip to London and a UEFA Champions League clash at Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday, before the Lions head to Vejle in the Superliga next weekend, and then host Brøndby.
Neestrup added: "We have to continue to work hard to get out of this bad period, because it is not done with the two recent victories at Hobro and today over Fredericia. We will take the victories with us as we work on our game, where it's especially about becoming more stable and closing down better, so that we don't give away so many chances and goals.
"Today we shouldn't give away a goal on a conversion, right after we made it 3-1. But, as I said, I acknowledge that that is where we are right now. Today we got another victory and we just have to keep doing that, regardless of the fact that the game won't be sparkling from one day to the next."
The FCK squad will take Sunday off and will train at Number 10 on Monday, before leaving for London later in the day.
