In late August 2010, FC Copenhagen signed Costa Rican international midfielder Christian Bolaños. Another strong attacking player, Bolaños has added even more strength to an already packed midfield, but crucially has the flair to play both on the wing and in the centre.
Bolaños began his career at home in Costa Rica and got started in his professional career at Deportivo Saprissa, where he played 138 matches from 2001 to 2007, scoring ten goals. After a few national titles, and success at the FIFA Club World Cup in 2005, it was proposed that Bolaños would move abroad to play in the English Premier League. This never materialized however, primarily due to problems with a British work permit and therefore in 2007 Bolaños chose to progress his career in the Danish Superliga.
From 2007 to 2008 Bolaños played 24 games for OB – scoring three goals – yet moved to IK Start in the Norwegian Tippeliga for the 2008/09 season. He developed his game further with IK Start, and has already made a positive contribution to FC Copenhagen’s attempts to regain the Danish championship. He also contributed highly towards FCK’s progression through the group stage of the 2010/11 UEFA Champions League.
Bolaños is a highly successful player, but technically he is also explosive and a strong dribbler: attributes that offer great creativity in the last third of the pitch. Additionally, Bolaños has the flair to entertain fans and can score goals, which he specifically displayed in his time at Norwegian IK Start.
Bolaños plays with the number 30 shirt, and has become a hit with the Copenhagen faithful. He has come to FCK with the desire to do everything for the club, giving the midfield an attacking clout and creating confusion in opposition back lines from quick thinking and movement. | |||
