In the summer of 2008 Swedish International Johan Wiland signed a 5 year contract with F.C. Copenhagen. Wiland played the rest of 2008 for his Swedish club IF Elfsborg, and in early January 2009 Wiland started in Copenhagen.

Johan Wiland has only played for two clubs, his childhood club Rydboholms SK, and from the age of just 16 his has been part of IF Elfsborg, a Swedish Allsvenskan Club.

In 2001 Johan Wiland got his debut for Elfsborg, and in his first season he won the Swedish Cup Final, when Elfsborg defeated AIK Stockholm 10-9 in a game that went into extra time and a very long penalty shootout.

Two years later Wiland and Elfsborg once again won the Swedish Cup. In the 2006-season Elfsborg won the its fifth Swedish Championship, but the first since 1961 – and Wiland was a very big part of this success, as he played every single minute of the season, had 12 clean sheets and only got passed 19 times in 26 league matches.

In his last season before joining F.C. Copenhagen, Johan Wiland once again proved that he is one of Sweden’s best goalkeepers. As in 2006, he played every single minute of the season, and the opposing teams only managed to pass him more than 18 times.

Johan Wiland got his debut on the Swedish National Team in 2007, and was also part of the Swedish Team during EURO2008 in Switzerland and Austria (but without getting any game action).

When FC Copenhagen signed Wiland they added a solid and level-headed goalkeeper to the squad. He found first team opportunities rare in the 2008/09 season, playing just one game. However, over the last two seasons Wiland has become the Lions’ first choice keeper, playing 44 league games in all.

He has been integral to the success of the club in the UEFA Champions League this season, conceding only two goals bar matches against FC Barcelona, where he also played exceedingly well. With a solid defence in front of him, Wiland conceded just 15 goals in the 2010/11 autumn period, and looks likely to be successful between the sticks for years to come.
