A few days before New Years Evening in 2008, F.C. Copenhagen and Esbjerg fB agreed on a transfer of Danish International Martin Vingaard. This meant that Vingaard from January 1st 2009 has been part of the Lions from Copenhagen. His contract expires in the summer of 2012.

Martin Vingaard started his career in B1913 from Odense where he played two seasons. In 2005 he joined Esbjerg fB in the Danish SAS League. In his opening season in the blue and white Esbjerg-jersey, he only got to play a few matches, but from the start of the second season, he was a regular in the line-up, and when he left the club, he could look back at 92 matches for Esbjerg fB.

On top of being a very good midfielder, he is also a very dangerous man in front of goal, which his 18 goals for Esbjerg proves. Even the home crowd in PARKEN will know that Vingaard is a goalscoring midfielder, as he back in 2007 scored one of Esbjerg’s goals in their 2-1 win over F.C. Copenhagen.

Martin Vingaard’s real breakthrough came in 2008, where he was voted “best SAS League player” for his performances in the last part of the 2007/08-season. On top of this, he made his debut for the Danish A-National Team against Holland in a 1-1-draw Eindhoven. A few days later, he played his second International and scored his first goal for Denmark, when he gave Denmark a 1-0 lead against Poland.

As a midfielder, Vingaard has all the skills FC Copenhagen holds dear. He is a flexible player who can play any position in midfield, and as he is very offensive: can score a good amount of goals, there is every reason to believe that Vingaard will be able to continue his success at FC Copenhagen. He is explosive when he needs to be, but still maintains that cool professional head to calm a situation down when necessary.

And what a success it has been. Vingaard played 32 league games of the 2009/10 season for FCK, scoring six goals. This tally has already been beaten in 2010/11:  with seven in 19 games. He has cemented his place on the left side of midfield, yet can play on the right when required. His shooting ability has been proven in Europe as well, with a fierce free kick splitting the Panathinaikos wall in FCK’s 2-0 win over the Greek side in the UEFA Champions League.
