Bryan Oviedo signed a three-and-a-half-year contract with FC Copenhagen in January 2010, in order to initially be a backup for Oscar Wendt at left back.
Oviedo figured in the U20 World Cup in autumn 2010, where chief scout Lars Hojer saw him play for Costa Rica. He also earned his full debut on the Costa Rican national team in a 2-3 defeat against Argentina.
A player with great development potential, observed CV Jensen at the conclusion of the contract, Oviedo needed a settling in period to get used to the Scandinavian culture on and off the pitch. He now knows English, having spoken only Spanish upon his arrival. He must also get used to FC Copenhagen’s style of play both in defence and going forward, and acquire the tactical understanding necessary to succeed nationally and internationally at his new club. In his first friendly matches, he gave more promising examples of his great talent. He is smart, fast, forward-looking and good in one-on-one situations.
Oviedo made his official debut on 5 May 2010, when Copenhagen finally secured the Danish championship with a 4-0 victory over HB Køge.
