When Atiba Hitchinson (or just "Hutch" as the fans call him) got his debut for F.C. Copenhagen in a Royal League match against Brøndby IF, very few in Denmark knew anything about him. He was, just as Brede Hangeland, one of coach Ståle Solbakken's "inventions", but once again it turned out that the Norwegian coach had found a player with a great talent, and today everyone knows Hutch and knows what a great footballer he is.

Hutch was born February 8th 1983 in Brampton, Canada, but his family originally came from Trinidad. As the Canadian national coach already at an early age picked Hutch for a national youth team, it was clear to Hutch, that he was Canadian. This choice is part of the reason that he already has more than 20 caps for Canada - where he is one of the key players in the midfield, just as in F.C. Copenhagen.

Hutch started his career in Brampton Braves, and from there he went to Toronto Lynx. In 2003 he flew across the Atlantic and signed a contract with the Swedish club Östers IF. After only one year in Östers IF he came to Helsingborg IF, where he played some excellent football the next seasons - something a lot of Swedes still remember.

Swedish fans have compared Hutch to Patrick Vieira, and now where he has found his right place in FCK, this comparison in understandable. Hutch however thinks he is Hutch, and doesn't like the comparison to other players - but still, there is something right about the comparison...

Hutch started playing in central midfield with Tobias Linderoth, but now he is playing all the positions midfield, and even as a forward once in a while. No matter where he plays, he is an entertaining player to watch, and a player that always causes problems for the opposition - no matter if it is in the Danish SAS League, in the UEFA Cup or the UEFA Champions League.

Hutch received the "Fan's Choice Award" at the Canadian "Player of the year" ceremonies in 2006.
